Sweden has demonstrated its leadership in sustainable urban innovation. The project Net Zero Persikan, based in Stockholm, has been named one of the winners of the European Innovation Procurement Awards 2025, under the Net Zero Industry Procurement category.
Net Zero Persikan showcases an approach to emission-free construction, deploying a fully electric machinery pool at a development site in Stockholm. By eliminating fossil fuel use in groundwork operations, the project sets a new benchmark for sustainable construction and offers a scalable model for municipalities across Europe aiming to reach Net Zero targets.
The award recognises outstanding procurement initiatives that drive systemic change and deliver innovative, impactful solutions. Funded by Horizon Europe and managed by EISMEA, the European Innovation Procurement Awards celebrate bold public sector leadership in shaping a greener, more innovative Europe.
The winners were announced during the European Innovation Council Summit in Brussels, and Net Zero Perkisan received EUR 25,000 to further scale its efforts.
This recognition places Stockholm at the forefront of climate-smart urban development, reinforcing Sweden’s commitment to innovation, clean energy, and sustainable cities.
