15 May 2025 – As part of its collaboration with NEUTRALPATH, the ASCEND project co-hosted the webinar “Community of Practice: Advancing Sustainable Mobility in PCEDs”, bringing together experts and city representatives to exchange practical insights on sustainable urban transport within Positive and Clean Energy Districts.
The session featured contributions from two Lighthouse Cities actively implementing mobility solutions in the field: Zaragoza (NEUTRALPATH) and Munich (ASCEND). Presented by CIRCE, Zaragoza’s intervention reflected its broad cooperation with the City Council on projects such as Elaborator and Just Streets. Their presentation focused on the city’s efforts to develop a more integrated mobility framework, including the expansion of cycling infrastructure, the implementation of bike-sharing schemes, and the integration of bidirectional electric vehicle chargers at the Zaragoza demo site. These elements support the city’s ambition to reduce car dependency while enhancing EV integration and energy flexibility.
Munich, represented by the City and its partner metaCCAZE, shared its strategy for electric mobility, showcasing how electric logistics and smart charging infrastructure are being scaled within ASCEND’s framework. The city presented use cases including the deployment of commercial e-cargo bikes and the use of sensor-based smart parking to support low-emission transport. The presentation also covered Munich’s approach to developing a citywide e-mobility strategy, as well as lessons learned in stakeholder engagement, infrastructure planning, and data integration to future-proof urban transport systems.
The session concluded with a joint discussion on how cities can design and implement neighbourhood-scale mobility interventions that align with broader decarbonisation goals. A key question emerged for the group to reflect on: What information is most critical when designing sustainable mobility interventions at the neighbourhood level to ensure impact, scalability, and integration with broader urban systems?
This webinar forms part of ASCEND’s wider Community of Practice initiative, which aims to foster knowledge exchange, peer learning, and collaborative problem-solving among mission-driven cities across Europe. The session reinforced the vital role that mobility plays in shaping inclusive and climate-neutral urban districts—where low-emission transport, citizen accessibility, and smart infrastructure converge.
