ASCEND at Europa*Rad 2025: Engaging Citizens on the Path to Clean Energy

On May 11, 2025, ASCEND took part in Europa*Rad 2025, one of Munich’s most vibrant Europe Day celebrations. Hosted at the Umadum Ferris Wheel in the Werksviertel district, the event brought together nearly 50 pro-European organisations to promote dialogue, cultural exchange, and European values.

Bringing ASCEND to the Heart of the City

ASCEND was presented in one of the Umadum gondolas, offering a unique setting for open conversations with Munich’s citizens about the project’s mission: building Positive Clean Energy Districts across Europe. The ASCEND team hosted five dedicated discussion rounds throughout the afternoon, sharing insights on sustainable urban transformation, energy innovation, and the role of local communities in achieving climate neutrality.

The interactive gondola sessions gave citizens a direct opportunity to engage with the ASCEND team, ask questions, and explore how the project contributes to making Munich and other European cities more climate-resilient and people-centred.

The ASCEND Mobile Information Unit: Taking the Conversation Further

In addition to the gondola sessions, ASCEND featured its Mobile Information Vehicle (UMO) on site. The UMO served as an accessible hub where visitors could learn more about the project, explore clean energy solutions, and discover ways to get involved in the energy transition at the local level.

Celebrating Europe Through Dialogue and Action

Europa*Rad 2025 was a powerful platform for connecting European projects to local communities. From cultural exchanges to future visions for Europe, the event highlighted the importance of collaborative action in shaping sustainable, inclusive cities.

For ASCEND, participating in Europa*Rad offered a valuable chance to bring the project’s goals closer to the people, fostering awareness, local dialogue, and citizen engagement, key pillars in building Positive Clean Energy Districts that truly serve their communities.
