URBIS 2026: European leaders in urban innovation: How they are building the districts and cities of the future?

ASCEND, together with projects ARV and DUT RESPED is organising a panel discussion at the URBIS Smart Cities Meetup on June 2nd, 2026 at 13:00 - 14:00.

The panel will explore what cities and developers gain from participating in large EU projects, alongside the time, capacity, and administrative complexity. Moreover, it will look at the gap between planned actions and an actual implementation, identify what has delivered tangible value, and explore the main challenges and bottlenecks that were encountered in practice. Finally, it will look on how collaboration between cities, developers, and research partners works in practice.

The panel will feature the following speakers:

  • Andreas Bärnreuther (ASCEND, City of Munich)
  • Lisa Enarsson (ASCEND, City of Stockholm)
  • Robert Wawerka (ARV, CVUT, City of Karviná)
  • Jakub Kiska (DUT RESPED, City of Hradec Králové demo site developer).
  • A representative from OICT (ASCEND, City of Prague)

The panel will take place at the Stage 2 and will be moderated by Michal Kuzmič (CVUT - UCEEB). For more information about the URBIS Smart Cities Meetup and the programme, please visit the URBIS website via this link.
