Cities play a pivotal role in Europe’s climate transition, but unlocking large-scale investment remains one of their biggest challenges. The Climate Cities Impact Investment Fund (CCIIF) is being designed to change that. As the concept moves into its next phase, cities are invited to join the upcoming CCIIF workshop, taking place on 4th November at 15:00–16:30 at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. The workshop will take place in a Meeting Room B39, located upstairs.
About the workshop
This interactive session will bring together cities, financiers, and European partners to explore how a large-scale financing facility could accelerate climate-neutral investment across Europe.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Co-shape the Fund’s structure and identify what cities need to make investments more bankable.
- Discuss asset classes and funding mechanisms for mature solutions such as building retrofits, heat pumps, photovoltaics, electric mobility, and district heating and cooling.
- Exchange directly with investors on how to aggregate demand, de-risk investments, and mobilise private capital.

About the CCIIF
The Climate Cities Impact Investment Fund is envisioned as a European-scale facility that channels €300 billion in public funding to mobilise five to ten times more in private capital. Its goal: to accelerate the deployment of proven climate solutions and help Europe meet its 2030 and 2050 climate targets.
