digital infrastructures

From designing and modelling energy demands and flows, to continuous monitoring and analysis of energy use, digital technologies are instrumental in creating more sustainable, liveable and inclusive cities.

Digital tools play a pivotal role in the creation of Positive Clean Energy Districts, PCEDs. From designing and modelling energy demands and flows, to continuous monitoring and analysis of energy use, even extending to the creation of user-friendly interfaces that foster engagement and collaboration within energy communities - digital technologies are instrumental in creating more sustainable, liveable and inclusive cities.

With this in mind, ASCEND builds upon existing digital ecosystems, as exemplified in the Lighthouse City of Lyon. Through an open-source digital ecosystem, real-time tracking of energy production and consumption, air quality, and water usage is facilitated via the district's "digital twin." This digital representation serves as a catalyst to make data-driven improvements across buildings and infrastructure.

Among ASCEND’s various tools are also digital KPI monitoring engines to monitor and assess data and advance standardisation. The embrace of cutting-edge technologies also extends to the installation of smart heating grids, for instance.

ASCEND’s Solution Package 1 seeks to leverage Digital infrastructures and ICT tools to support flexible energy systems and the implementation of PCEDs.
