November brought a highlight as ASCEND proudly participated in the joint EC representation at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. Amidst the gathering of 30 other innovative projects, initiatives, and Directorates-General (DGs), the event presented a great opportunity for ASCEND to connect with like-minded individuals, partake in knowledge sharing, and gain insights from the experiences of fellow projects.

In addition to the booth presence, ASCEND actively participated in two sessions alongside Scalable Cities, NetZeroCities, BUILDSPACE, NEUTRALPATH as well as ATELIER, +CityxChange and EXCESS. Partners discussed the role of Positive Energy Districts in achieving climate neutrality, cities' needs to achieve such a goal, and how the PED concept can be replicated effectively.

The Smart City Expo World Congress was more than a showcase of innovative projects. It served as a dynamic platform where experts, thought leaders and project representatives engaged in conversations that will undoubtedly shape the future of sustainable urban development. ASCEND extends a big thank you to all partners and attendees for making these days inspiring and insightful.

While the expo may have come to a close, ASCEND's journey is only just beginning. The lessons learned, connections made, and ideas exchanged at the Smart City Expo World Congress will fuel ASCEND's ongoing commitment to pioneering smart urban development. The project looks forward to leveraging these experiences as it continues contributing to the collective efforts towards creating healthier, more sustainable, and inclusive cities.
