As the POCITYF project approaches its conclusion, partners and stakeholders will gather in Évora, Portugal, on 29-30 September 2026 for the project’s final conference, titled “Historic Urban Centres Driving Climate Neutrality: POCITYF Lessons and Pathways.”
The two-day event will bring together representatives from POCITYF’s Lighthouse Cities, project partners, European initiatives and sister projects to reflect on the project’s results and examine how its lessons can support the transition towards climate-neutral, resilient and citizen-centred cities.
A central focus of the programme will be the practical experience gained during the project. Participants will discuss the solutions implemented in historic urban environments, the challenges encountered and the pathways for replicating and scaling successful approaches across Europe.
One of the planned roundtables, “Citizen Engagement: What Actually Moved the Needle?”, will examine how cities and projects have involved citizens and local communities in urban transition initiatives. The session will address the approaches developed within POCITYF, the results achieved and the key lessons learned, while also exploring the persistent gap between citizen engagement strategies in theory and their implementation in practice.
The discussion will include perspectives from POCITYF cities and partners, as well as other European projects working on citizen-centred urban transformation. By bringing together different experiences, the roundtable will identify the factors that can strengthen community participation and support the long-term success of climate-neutrality initiatives.
The POCITYF Final Event will provide an opportunity to assess the project’s contribution, exchange knowledge and discuss how historic cities can continue to serve as active drivers of Europe’s climate-neutral transition.
